The Beatles are without a doubt the most famous band to come out of Liverpool and continue to be adored by fans across the world decades after they first formed.
But there are many other musicians that have done the city proud over the years.
That’s why this week we asked followers on the ECHO Facebook page : “Apart from The Beatles, who’s the best band or singer to come out of Liverpool?”
We were inundated with responses - 1,500 to be exact - and it became clear just how much talent has emerged from the city.
Scroll down to see a list of the 29 musicians and bands readers adore and you can read the full thread here .
Neil Clough said: “Forget the Beatles, Echo and the Bunnymen all day long”.
Jackie Murphy added: “Frankie goes to Hollywood by a mile, especially ‘Holly Johnson’ he’s even better live, I was in the front row, at the Echo arena, we touched hands, “The power of Love”.
Christopher Carson said: “OMD or Echo and the Bunnymen. FGTH. Christians, Flock of Seagulls, Lighting Seeds, China Crisis, Ginger Cilla the list goes on.”
Karen Nickson said: “The Real Thing. Timeless music that sounds as good today as it did in the 70's.”
And Kevin Cullen added: “The Banshees of course with that clean unique sound that flows through your ears right into your soul”.
