Several injured as KSRTC buses collide with each other near Neyyattinkara

Around 30 passengers were injured as two Kerala State Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses collided head-on near Neyyattinkara in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday night. The condition of the drivers and the conductors remained critical.

The Neyyattinkara police have registered a case in connection with the incident that occurred at Moonnukallinmoodu along the National Highway 66 around 10.30 p.m. 

The two fast buses of the Neyyattinkara depot that operated on the Neyyattinkara - Nagercovil and Thiruvananthapuram route collided with each other. The front portion of the buses were crushed in the impact of the collision.

According to the police, the mishap is suspected to have occurred when the bus that was headed towards Thiruvananthapuram from Nagercoil was overtaking a car. Those injured were rushed to various hospitals including the Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital, Neyyattinkara general hospital and a private hospital in Neyyattinkara.

The drivers Anil Kumar, M.S. Suni, conductors G. Dhanya and K. Rajesh continued to battle for their lives with grievous injuries, the police said.
