27-year-old man drowned in pool while on holiday in Malta

27-year-old man drowned in a swimming pool while on holiday in Malta, an inquest has heard.

Christopher Dodd was described as a "good swimmer" but had been drinking before he got into the pool.

He was found unresponsive in the pool at Triq it-Trunċiera, St Paul's Bay, at 7.45pm on July 15 last year.

Christopher was pulled from the pool at the Amazonia Complex and CPR was administered, reports CheshireLive.

Christopher, who was staying at the nearby Santana Hotel, was taken by ambulance to the Mater Dei Hospital but attempts to revive him failed.

Inspector Baldacchino of the Malta Police Force (MPF) said CCTV showed Christopher going for a swim alone, with no one approaching him.

Inspector Baldacchino said Christopher was observed having difficulties in walking straight. After he had been brought out of the pool there was "a smell of alcohol" with "no sign of violence".

A toxicology report concluded that the level of alcohol in Christopher's body amounted to slightly more than the UK legal limit to drive.

His brother Callum Dodd described his brother as "loving life" at the time of the tragedy, and had enjoyed a few drinks and a FaceTime call with a friend not long before his death. He described Christopher as "a good swimmer".

Recording a conclusion of misadventure, assistant coroner for Cheshire, Heath Westerman, said Christopher's death was a "tragic unintended outcome".
