A new list of long covid symptoms has been revealed by the NHS, including the most common signs such as breathlessness and weight loss.
It comes as the Office for National Statistics (ONS) disclosed in November that an estimated 2.1 million people in the UK were experiencing self-reported long covid symptoms.
Long covid is defined by the ONS as symptoms continuing for more than four weeks after the coronavirus infection that cannot be explained by another reason, such as a separate medical condition.

The NHS says recovery time varies, as some people can see a quick improvement, and others will have long covid for longer. Here are the 27 most common long covid symptoms:
- Breathlessness
- A cough
- Chest tightness
- Chest pain
- Palpitations
- Fatigue
- Fever
- Pain
- Finding it difficult to focus
- Headaches
- Problems sleeping
- Pins and needles or numbness
- Dizziness
- Delirium
- Stomach pain or ache
- Nausea
- Diarrhoea
- Not feeling hungry
- Weight loss
- Joint and muscle pain
- Feeling depressed
- Feeling worried
- Tinnitus
- Earache
- Sore throat
- Loss of taste and smell
- Skin rashes
If you suspect you have long covid, you should see your GP for a referral. You may be given advice about how to manage your symptoms at home, but if your life is hugely impacted, you may be referred to a specialist, such as a rehabilitation service.
