There were 69 more Covid-19 fatalities and 26,050 confirmed new cases during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry reported on Friday.
This compared with the 82 coronavirus-related fatalities and 27,024 new cases reported on Thursday, just 47 below the all-time high set on March 18.
The figures did not include 26,655 positive results from antigen tests over the past 24 hours. This would raise the total to 52,705.
The 69 new fatalities were aged from 11 months to 96 years.
Bangkok had 16 new deaths and there were seven in adjacent provinces - in Pathum Thani (5) and Samut Prakan (2).
The Northeast had 13 fatalities - three each in Ubon Ratchathani and Nakhon Ratchasima, two in Chaiyaphum and one each in Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham, Roi Et, Udon Thani and Surin.
The South reported 14 deaths - four in Phatthalung, two each in Nakhon Si Thammarat and Surat Thani and one each in Chumphon, Phuket, Trang, Pattani, Yala and Satun.
The North saw six more coronavirus-related fatalities - three in Phitsanulok and one each in Phrae, Mae Hong Son and Phetchabun.
There were 25,912 new cases in the general population, 102 among prison inmates and 36 imported cases.
Of the new infections in the general population, 25,644 were confirmed at hospitals and 268 via mass testing.
The 36 imported cases came from 11 countries and included 14 from Myanmar, five from Germany, four from Hong Kong, three from the United Kingdom, two each from Turkey, Cambodia and Israel and one each from France, Indonesia, Belgium and Singapore.
On Thursday 244,111 people received Covid-19 treatment (up from 240,349 on the previous day) - 65,055 at hospitals (up from 63,926), including 1,619 seriously ill patients with lung inflammation (up from 1,553) and 630 dependent on ventilators (up from 583).
The 24-hour period also saw 22,219 Covid-19 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.
Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 3,477,030 Covid-19 cases, including 1,253,595 this year, with 3,208,271 complete recoveries to date.
The death toll stood at 24,648 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 2,950 so far this year.
Global Covid-19 cases rose by 1.69 million in 24 hours to 478.18 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 4,830 to 6.13 million.
Over the past seven days, South Korea had the most cases of 2.57 million, followed by Germany with 1.60 million cases, Vietnam with 1.01 million cases and France with 776,117 cases.
