Some 250 homes in Bolton suffered a power cut on Thursday morning before 190 had power restored by 10pm the same day.
Electriticy North West bosses say every other occupied home - about 45 - had power restored by 5pm on Friday. Homes to which engineers could not gain access to carry out safety checks, had letters posted through the door and were visited over the weekend.
Electricity North West (ENW) says the outage was caused by a fault at an electricity substation. The lights went out in an area of Tonge Moor and a free-of-charge food and refreshments van was set up on the Food Shopper store car park on Crompton Way for residents. A spokesperson said: "A fault at an electricity substation caused a power cut to 254 properties in Tonge Moor. We immediately attended the site to assess the damage and make repairs.
"Due to the nature of the fault, we are having to carry out safety checks and individual repairs at each affected property which is taking some time.
“Our teams worked through to 10pm and were back on site first thing this morning. We’ll remain in the area carrying out repairs so we can restore power as quickly as possible for each property as soon as it’s safe to do so.”
