23 Y.O. Got Stuck Upside Down Between 2 Boulders For 7 Hours While Trying To Retrieve A Phone

Matilda Campbell was recently rescued from literal rock bottom after she got stuck between two boulders in NSW’s Hunter Valley. NSW Ambulance has since shared pics of the daring rescue and it’s truly nightmare fuel.

Last week, the 23-year-old found herself between a “rock and a hard place”, as NSW Ambulance wrote, after she tried retrieving her phone in between two large rocks.

Although she thought it would be an easy rescue, Campbell fell headfirst into a three-meter crevice and became stuck. Before paramedics and rescue teams could arrive, the woman was hanging upside down for an hour.

In a recent NSW Ambulance Facebook post, it revealed that it took “teamwork and a specialised Tirfor winch move a massive 500kg boulder” to free Campbell.

“In my 10 years as a rescue paramedic I had never encountered a job quite like this, it was challenging but incredibly rewarding,” Peter Watts, NSW Ambulance’s Specialist Paramedic, said.

“Every agency had a role, and we all worked incredibly well together to achieve a good outcome for the patient.”

After hanging upside down for seven hours, Campbell was freed and escaped the rocky crevice with minor scratches and bruises without her phone.

Alongside its post, NSW Ambulance shared a plethora of pics from the big rescue mission. However, one picture truuuuullllyyy triggered my fight or flight.

This one. Right here.

If you’ve seen The Descent, 127 Hours or have heard of spelunking horror stories, this case is exactly what that reminds me of. Thankfully for Campbell, she was able to be rescued.

Following the ordeal, Campbell shared a statement on Facebook, thanking her friends and the rescue team for getting her out of that terrible, nightmare-inducing position.

“I wanted to give the biggest shoutout to my friends, the team who worked so hard to get me out, I’m forever thankful as most likely I would not be here today,” Campbell wrote in a post on Facebook.

“I love you guys and you mean the world to me.”

Elsewhere on her profile, she shared: “It’s safe to say I’m the most accident-prone person ever. I am okay – just have some injuries I’m recovering from, no more rock exploration for me for a while!

Yeah, and no rock exploration for me either after seeing those bloody pics. A ‘yuge no from me.
