23,834 new Covid cases, 54 deaths Friday

The country registered 54 more Covid-19 fatalities and 23,834 new cases during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry announced on Friday morning.

There were 23,688 local cases and 146 imported ones.

On Thursday, 19,351 Covid-19 patients left hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus while 227,843 others were at hospitals.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 2,981,996 Covid-19 cases, including 758,561 cases this year, with 2,731,029 complete recoveries to date.

The death toll stood at 23,124 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 1,426 so far this year.

The highest number of Covid-related fatalities in a 24-hour period was 312 recorded on Aug 13, 2021. The previous highest number of cases was 25,615 on Feb 26.
