23,618 new Covid cases, 49 deaths Thursday

The country registered 49 more Covid-19 fatalities and 23,618 new cases during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry announced on Thursday morning.

There were 23,437 local cases and 181 imported ones.

The patient figures did not include 42,138 positive results from antigen tests over the same period.

On Wednesday, 18,939 Covid-19 patients left hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 2,958,162 Covid-19 cases, including 734,727 cases this year, with 2,711,678 complete recoveries to date.

The death toll stood at 23,070 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 1,372 so far this year.

The highest number of Covid-related fatalities in a 24-hour period was 312 recorded on Aug 13, 2021. The previous highest number of cases was 25,615 on Feb 26.
