21-year-old used 'knives as weapons' in 2 terrifying incidents in Newark

A 21-year-old man was warned about the danger of knives after he used them as a weapon during two separate incidents. Reece Hislop was not prosecuted for having the knives as the offences were indoors, and not in a public place.

But a court heard he admitted two charges of using threatening behaviour. The first was on January 10 this year where he used a knife to connect with a door. The blade was taken from him, but a second incident followed 10 days later, where he had a large kitchen knife on him.

He said to a neighbour: "Come on big man', and 'do you want to take this downstairs?'" Both incidents for Hislop, of Devon Road, Newark, were marred by alcohol, Nottingham Magistrates' Court was told.

District Judge Sunil Khanna gave him a total of 30 weeks in prison, which included 18 weeks from a suspended prison sentence he breached. He must pay a victim surcharge of £187 on release.

The judge said on Tuesday (February 21): "Still young people before these court for knives face serious offences for murder and attempted murder, and that is not somewhere to go." He added the knives were not in a public place but were used as a weapon.
