There were 39 more Covid-19 fatalities and 21,232 confirmed new cases during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry reported on Wednesday morning.

This compared with the 35 coronavirus-related fatalities and 18,363 new cases reported on Tuesday morning.

Taweesilp Visanuyothin, spokesman for the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, said in the afternoon briefing that the latest 39 fatalities were between the ages of 28 and 95 years.

“The new deaths are centred in Bangkok and the Northeast, where new cases rose,” he said.

Bangkok had nine new deaths and there were seven more in the adjacent provinces of Nakhon Pathom (2), Pathum Thani (2), Samut Prakan (2) and Samut Sakhon (1).

Other central plain provinces further from the capital recorded three more deaths - in Chachoengsao, Chon Buri and Nakhon Nayok.

The Northeast had 12 fatalities - three in Si Sa Ket, two each in Nakhon Ratchasima and Ubon Ratchathani and one each in Loei, Kalasin, Khon Kaen Chaiyaphum and Maha Sarakham.

The South reported six more - in Phuket (3), Chumphon (1), Trang (1) and Phangnga (1).

The North logged two fatalities - in Mae Hong Son and Phichit.

There were 20,904 new cases in the general population, 160 among prison inmates and 168 imported cases.

Of the local Covid-19 infections, 20,839 were confirmed at hospitals and 65 via mass testing.

“Of all hospital beds available for Covid-19 patients, 49.1% were occupied,” Dr Taweesilp said.

The 24-hour period also saw 16,662 Covid-19 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.
