The Washington Commanders’ 2024 season came to a disappointing end on Sunday in Philadelphia, falling 55-23 to the Eagles in the NFC championship game.
It was quite the turnaround for the Commanders, who finished 4-13 one year ago. Led by rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, Washington won 12 regular-season games and two road playoff games. Now, the Commanders, like 29 other teams, will turn their focus to the offseason.
This week, the Reese’s Senior Bowl kicks off, which means the NFL draft is less than three months away. Speaking of the draft, Sunday’s loss locks in Washington with the 29th overall pick in April’s 2025 NFL draft.
It’s a far cry from where the Commanders picked last season. Washington held the No. 2 overall pick in last year’s draft, which it used on Daniels. That pick looks to have set the Commanders up for years to come.
Washington’s draft needs will come into focus once free agency begins in March. It will be interesting to see how general manager Adam Peters approaches the draft. Will he move down to acquire more picks? The good news for the Commanders is they are in excellent salary-cap shape for 2025, too.
The 2025 NFL draft will take place in Green Bay from April 24-26.
