The PGA Tour kicked off its Florida Swing this week, and the first stop was once again PGA National for the Cognizant Classic. It offered a $9.2 million purse, with $1.656 million to the winner.
Joe Highsmith is taking that check home after an incredible weekend on the Champion Course. The 24-year-old made the cut on the number then fired rounds of 64-64 to seize the title. Brandt Snedeker was the last player to win after making the cut on the number, at the 2016 Farmers Insurance Open.
The week began with Jake Knapp scorching PGA National in the opening round, shooting the PGA Tour's first 59 in the state of Florida. But after a 12-under start he wasn’t able to keep the pedal down the rest of the week, finishing tied for sixth at 15 under.
