The Arizona Cardinals are in offseason mode and we are still weeks away from free agency and months from the NFL draft. Over the next little while, we will take a look at each player on the roster or signed to a reserve deal and break down where they stand with the team.
We will look at their 2024 season, their contract status and what their status is for the coming offseason and 2025 season.
Next up is quarterback Clayton Tune
2024 Clayton Tune stats, season
Last offseason, the Cardinals traded for quarterback Desmond Ridder and it seemed like Tune would be relegated to third-string status and the practice squad, but he beat out Ridder for the backup QB job and held the role all season.
He appeared in six games this past season, sometimes coming in during garbage time, a couple of times for a QB sneak or even a snap or two when Kyler Murray had to come out to be checked for an injury.
He played a total of 31 offensive snaps. He had seven rushing attempts for minus-4 yards, picking up two first downs, and he completed both of his pass attempts for four yards.
2025 contract status
Tune enters the third of his four-year rookie deal. He is scheduled to make $1.03 million in 2025 and count $1.23 million against the cap
Outlook for 2025
The coaches seem to really like Tune, but that doesn’t mean he is 100% guaranteed the backup job. Expect to see the Cardinals bring in a quarterback to compete with him for the backup job, whether it be a veteran quarterback, a young quarterback or even a quarterback in the draft.
