2024 will be the end of neutral schemes and the 'revival of colorful spaces', according to one interior designer

With the beginning of a new year almost in sight, the design world is filled with predictions for what trends will most likely dominate in 2024. While this encompasses many interior design trends, there's one that stands out more than most: vibrant color trends

Throughout 2023, we've seen this trend around more experimental colors beginning to emerge, and experts say that this will only continue next year. We're officially saying goodbye to minimalism and cool-toned color palettes, and instead, we're embracing far more of a personality-led approach to the way we design our homes – gladly welcoming deep and dynamic color schemes.

One interior designer to observe this standout trend is Jordan Samson, who shared his 2024 design predictions as a video on Instagram.

'Gone are the days of hyper-minimalism,' he says. 'We are absolutely shifting towards more unique spaces with one-of-a-kind features that show off your personality like original artwork, vintage items, custom furniture, and of course a whole lot of color.'

This shift reinforces prominent trends such as dopamine decor which is all about using the home as a place to show personality, rather than following one specific decor style. In 2024, Jordan signals that this will become more of the norm with a focus on decorating with vintage and decorating with art.

'2024 is going to be the revival of colorful spaces,' continues Jordan. Referencing Pantone's 2024 Color of the Year, which was earlier this month announced as Peach Fuzz, Jordan says: 'I disagree. I think it'll be a dusty blue or some form of rust or reddish brown.' It's fair to say Peach Fuzz has a somewhat divided opinion; it's a very soft hue that falls somewhere between orange and pink, unlike the far deeper earthy tones that we're seeing more and more of.

When it comes to decorating with neutrals in 2024, Jordan predicts that 'chocolate brown will absolutely be the go-to.' We've already seen lots of appeal for light brown this year, so we'll no doubt begin to see dark brown embraced for an even more intense version of these new neutrals.

For more inspiration when it comes to decorating with color, take a look at these color lessons for 2024, as suggested by interior designers. Much like Jordan's predictions, the main color rules for the year ahead are all about warm tones over cool, embracing rich hues, and experimenting with unexpected color pairings.
