2024 NFL free agency: DT Khalil Davis contract details with Texans

The Houston Texans brought back defensive tackle Khalil Davis near the start of free agency.

He signed a one-year deal worth $1.65 million, according to KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson. Davis’ deal has a $1.1 base salary for 2024, a $350,000 signing bonus and a per-game active roster worth up to $150,000 for the season. He can make an additional $50,000 in workout bonuses.

Davis, 27, mostly played as a backup interior defensive lineman but could see more snaps in 2024 if Houston doesn’t add more starting-caliber players on the defensive line. He totaled two sacks, six quarterback hits and 10 pressures in 422 defensive snaps over 15 games this season. Davis started one game.

Defensive tackle is a bit of a mess right now in Houston. The team won’t have either of its 2023 starters after the Texans traded away Maliek Collins and let Sheldon Rankins walk in free agency. General manager Nick Caserio signed veterans Tim Settle Jr. and Foley Fatukasi as potential starters as well.

Davis is a quality depth piece, but the line could be in trouble if he, Settle and or Fatukasi are poised to start or see significant snaps this season.
