The most experienced quarterback in college football is taking his talents to the next level after an elite breakout season. Oregon quarterback Bo Nix enters the 2024 NFL draft in a stacked quarterback class; where might he land?
Here is everything you need to know about the high-flying Duck:
Vitals
Height: 6-2
Weight: 217
Class: Senior
Strengths
An experienced leader that has developed through the roof over the last two seasons, Bo Nix shows plenty of promise at the NFL level. With five seasons worth of starting experience under his belt Nix brings a level of preparedness that is rarely found in a quarterback that is expected to be drafted as high as he is.
With an excellent arm, high level athletic tools, a snappy release, and excellent short area accuracy, Nix has the makings of a plug and play quarterback at the next level. While Nix was not asked to read a ton of the field in the quick read Oregon offense there is still plenty of moments you can point to where Nix clearly shows he can process the game at the next level. Nix has a NFL level arm to fit the ball into tight windows and is one of the better throwers when it comes to layering passes into difficult angles down the field.
Nix launched himself into the Heisman race and the first round conversation this last season with the Ducks where he was able to put up 51 touchdowns through the air and ground, 4,508 passing yards, and maintained a quarterback rating of 188.3.
Weaknesses
As stated previously Nix did play in a bit of a gimmicky offense and did at time struggle to function outside the design of the play if the first read was taken away.
Nix has struggled with inconsistent footwork and accuracy throughout his college career, and it’s fair to question if his completion marks are more because of the amount of screen passes Oregon uses and if Nix can operate outside of that system as a consistent passer.
Projection
NFL teams are always scrambling to find answers at the quarterback positions and this year is no different. Box Nix is one of the best quarterbacks in this class and he will experience a bit of a draft boost because of his position. The ability to come in and start right away while possessing excellent athletic tools is going to lure teams his way in the middle of the first round. Nix has the potential to develop into a playmaking quarterback who can manage a NFL offense, but there is some inherent risk in taking him too high.
Projection: First round
