The 2024 Latin Grammys are set to make a return to Miami, the city where the Latin Recording Academy is headquartered. The 25th annual event is scheduled to be broadcast live from the Kaseya Center on November 14. Nominations for the prestigious awards will be unveiled on September 17.
Notably, last year's ceremony took place in Sevilla, Spain, marking the first time the show was held outside of the United States. This decision was the outcome of a significant deal worth nearly 19 million euros between the government of Andalusia and the Latin Recording Academy, aimed at expanding the global reach of the Latin Grammys.
Latin Recording Academy CEO Manuel Abud emphasized the importance of international growth, highlighting the diverse membership of the Academy spanning over 40 countries. The move to Spain was seen as a strategic step to further promote music in the Spanish and Portuguese languages on a global scale.
While the decision to host the Latin Grammys in Spain sparked some controversy, with critics questioning the choice of a country with a colonial history in Latin America, it aligned well with Spain's efforts to boost music tourism, particularly through hosting major music festivals.
The Latin Grammys have a tradition of recognizing artists who may not be of Latinx descent but perform in Spanish or Portuguese. For instance, Spanish singer Rosalia, who is Hispanic but not Latina, made history in 2022 by becoming the first woman to win album of the year at the awards show twice.
In a recent statement, Abud announced the return of the Latin Grammys to Miami, citing the city's status as the 'epicenter of Latin entertainment.' He expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support and enthusiasm from the local community.
