From a beloved reality TV couple ending their engagement to the collapse of “Bennifer,” 2024 year has been packed with jaw-dropping celebrity breakups.
While many stars broke the news in the usual way — via Instagram statements promising to stay friends — one unfortunate breakup unfolded on camera in a Netflix reality series.
One thing is certain: when high-profile couples call it quits, drama and speculation are never far behind, no matter how polished the PR spin of a “conscious uncoupling” may be — keeping pop culture fans glued to the headlines.
Here are the year’s most shocking celebrity splits:
January
Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and Davide Sanclimenti
After rekindling their relationship in late 2023, Love Island 2022 winners Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and Davide Sanclimenti called it quits again in January 2024.
The Love Island winners announced their breakup on Instagram Stories, with Ekin-Su stating it was her decision to end things.
Ekin-Su posted: "The last 18 months have been a rollercoaster of ups and downs, just like every relationship. Davide and I both wanted to make this relationship work as we cared deeply for each other.
"Unfortunately, I have recently made the decision to end our relationship and to go our separate ways. Breakups are never easy for any couple, and we hope that our privacy will be respected at this time. I enjoyed our time together and will cherish the memories we made.
"Thank you for your continued support. It's been so lovely to have you follow our Love Island journeys together since the villa and we hope you'll continue to follow our careers as we go off in our own directions."
However Davide stated that the split was a mutual decision, stating: "Ekin and I, just after the ski holidays, decided to go different ways. It was a joint decision but I was waiting to make it public to respect her time in the show. I don't know why the agreed statement changed last minute.”
He added: "Now it's time to focus on myself. I love you all always, thank you for the unconditional support everyone showed me from the beginning. Davide."
Despite his “mutual decision” claim, Ekin-Su claimed that Davide "hurt her" and admitted she felt more invested in the relationship than he was a during conversation with fellow Celebrity Big Brother contestant Marisha Wallace.
February
Ellie Goulding and Caspar Jopling
Ellie Goulding confirmed her separation from husband of four Caspar Jopling in February, revealing they had quietly split some time ago.
Both Ellie and Caspar posted messages on social media, emphasizing their ongoing friendship and commitment to co-parenting their son. Ellie stated they were focusing on protecting their family’s privacy and would not comment further. The split was amicable, with both prioritizing their son’s well-being and maintaining a respectful public image.
After months of rumours, the singer confirmed the split on Instagram, writing: "In light of recent stories, I feel I have been left with no choice but to let you all know that Caspar and I privately separated some time ago.
"We remain the closest of friends and have been successfully co-parenting with our son's best interests at heart.”
In December it emerged Ellie had reportedly sold her £3.1million London home.
Romeo Beckham and Mia Regan

Amid online speculation, Romeo addressed the breakup on Instagram Stories, sharing a playful photo of the pair and writing: “Mooch and I have parted ways after 5 years of love. We still have a lot of respect for each other, share a strong friendship, and always will.”
Regan also confirmed the news on Instagram, posting a selfie of the two and writing: “This is Ro, we’ve grown up together since we were 16! Love takes different forms as you mature. We aren’t together romantically but share lots of love. After 5 years, we friendzoned each other heheh.”
Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied
Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied’s long-speculated divorce was officially confirmed in March 2024, though it had been filed quietly in July 2023.
After 11 years of marriage, their divorce was finalised in February in France, where the couple lived with their children, son Aleph, 12, and daughter Amalia, 7.
Portman, who was first seen without her wedding ring in Spring 2023 after news of Millepied's alleged "short-lived" affair surfaced, broke her silence about her divorce in July.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show, she explained how meeting Rihanna for the first time gave her some respite: “I think every woman going through a divorce should get to have Rihanna say to her that she’s a bad b***h. It was—it was exactly what I needed.”
April
Jon Richardson and Lucy Beaumont
Comedy golden couple Jon Richardson and Lucy Beaumont announced their divorce after nine years of marriage in April.
The announcement came just days after the fifth series of their mockumentary series Meet The Richardsons – in which they played exaggerated versions of themselves – debuted on Dave’s UKTV.
The couple have one daughter, who was born in 2016, and said in their statement: “As our only priority is managing this difficult transition for our daughter, we would ask that our privacy is respected at this sensitive time to protect her well-being.”

The news followed speculation about their relationship after footage of Chance dancing with another woman at his 30th birthday bash during Jamaica's Carnival went viral. Around the same time, Corley shared a Maya Angelou quote on Instagram about people struggling to grow up.
Isla Fisher and Sacha Baron Cohen
Hollywood stars Isla Fisher and Sacha Baron Cohen shocked fans when they announced their split after 14 years of marriage in April.
They filed for divorce in 2023, quietly managing the transition while maintaining privacy for the sake of their children. They said in a joint post on Instagram: “We forever share in our devotion and love for our children.
“We sincerely appreciate your respecting our family’s wish for privacy.”
Chelsea Lazkani and Jeff Lazkani
Selling Sunset star Chelsea Lazkani followed in her pal Chrishell Stause’s footsteps, as her shock split became a key storyline in the Netflix reality series.
Lazkani filed for divorce from her husband Jeff in March but it wasn’t until the latest season of Selling Sunset aired that fans found out what happened.
In a move that sparked a fresh divide between the Oppenheim Group ladies, estate agent Bre Tiesi invited Lazkani out for drinks and told her one-time enemy that her husband had allegedly been seen cosying up to another woman.
May
Taylor Russell and Harry Styles
News of Harry Styles and Taylor Russell's reported breakup surfaced in May after a year of dating. The Sun reported that the Watermelon Sugar singer and Canadian actress ended their relationship following a trip to Japan in April.
"Harry and Taylor have ended their relationship," a source told the outlet. "They went through a rough patch after their trip to Japan and are taking some time apart. He’s been in America and she’s been in London." The source added, "They made a lovely couple, and it was obvious Taylor made Harry happy, but things have become strained recently."
Though Styles and Russell never publicly confirmed their romance, rumours began in summer 2023 when she was spotted in a private section at his Vienna Love On Tour concert. The pair were later seen holding hands in the city and visiting the White Cube gallery in London, with photos circulating online. Russell also attended Styles’s final Love On Tour show in Italy, where fans spotted her in the crowd, and the pair were seen enjoying a dip in Hampstead Heath ponds together.
Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes
Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes shocked the public with their split after 14 years of marriage. Their separation was confirmed in May, with both parties releasing a joint statement that expressed their mutual respect and commitment to moving forward in an amicable manner.
The pair are another TV duo who called time on their marriage this year.
After months of rumours, the couple announced their separation, ending a 27-year relationship and 14 years of marriage.
July
Stormzy and Maya Jama
A year after rekindling their romance, rapper Stormzy and Love Island host Maya Jama parted ways again in July.
In a post on Instagram, Jama said: “We've been laughing whilst drafting this because we never, ever, in a million years thought we'd be the couple announcing a breakup, but for the sake of clarity and, more importantly, to allow us the space and grace that's needed for us both to be able to navigate this next bit of our lives with peace, we thought it might be best to.”
The pair insisted there were no hard feelings, as Jama added: “We still think the absolute world of each other, we still care and respect each other, we are still grateful for the time we've had together, and we are still friends and will always be friends (so if you see us having a lil catch-up at The Brits or something, don't cause a fuss, we are dawgs!).”
August
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's brief marriage came to an end in August 2024, two years after they wed. J.Lo filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences, and the public’s perception of their second attempt at marriage shifted, with many noting the short duration of the union despite their high-profile romance.
Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce just two years after they got married in Las Vegas,
“Bennifer” previously dated in the early 2000s before a high-profile split in 2004. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out the second time around with Lopez filing her court documents on their anniversary.
The Los Angeles county superior court filing revealed they had split back in April.
Cardi B and Offset
Cardi B and Offset’s split in August 2024 wasn’t their first, but it still made waves as her rep confirmed the WAP rapper had filed for divorce the same day she announced her pregnancy.
“This is not based on one particular incident," her rep stated at the time. "It has been a long time coming.”
The couple, who married in September 2017, have had a tumultuous relationship. Cardi previously filed for divorce in 2020 but called it off weeks later. Yet, their latest split comes seven months after the Bodak Yellow rapper revealed they had separated again.
The couple share three children: daughter Kulture, 6, son Wave, and their 3-month-old baby girl.
Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury
Arguably the most shocking split of the year, Love Island’s golden couple – and parents to one-year-old Bambi – parted ways in August.
Molly-May Hague sent WhatsApp groups up and down the country into overdrive when she revealed in an Instagram post that she would no longer be marrying Tommy Fury, her partner of five years.
“Never in a million years did I think I'd ever have to write this,” she wrote. “After five years of being together I never imagined our story would end, especially not this way. I am extremely upset to announce that mine and Tommy's relationship has come to an end.”
Neither party has revealed the reason behind their seemingly sudden split, with Hague cryptically telling Vogue in November: “I do think that he will talk about things eventually. I do think that when he’s ready, maybe more will be said. But I think that’s for him to do on his terms.”
October
Channing Tatum and Zoë Kravitz
Channing Tatum and Zoë Kravitz ended their engagement after three years of dating.
Although details about the breakup remain sparse, sources confirmed to People that the couple, who had started dating in 2021, went their separate ways in October 2024.
The pair began dating after working together on Kravitz’s directorial debut, Blink Twice, in which Tatum starred. They got engaged a year ago.
The pair were last seen together on October 6 while attending a play by Blink Twice co-star Levon Hawke in New York City’s Red Hook neighbourhood. However, in the weeks after, Kravitz was spotted without her engagement ring.
Dr. Kate Tomas and Andrew Garfield
In October, Dr. Kate Tomas confirmed she had split from actor Andrew Garfield. The British actor, 41, had first been linked to the “professional witch” to the stars back in March, after they were spotted on a double date with singer Phoebe Bridgers and comedian Bo Burnham in Malibu, California.
However, Tomas, a self-described “philosopher and spiritual mentor”, confirmed on Instagram that their relationship ended “months ago” when a follower inquired if they were still together.
Taking to Instagram, her followers penned: “[Are you] still dating Andrew Garfield? … Tell him I’m a fan of him, please.”
To which she responded: “We broke up months ago but I’m sure he will be happy to know that he is loved.”
Lupita Nyong'o and Joshua Jackson
Lupita Nyong'o and Joshua Jackson quietly ended their short-lived relationship in October 2024.
The Oscar winner confirmed the split during an interview with Harper's Bazaar UK, joking that her only focus is on her beloved cat, Yoyo.
She told the outlet: “My love for my cat is singular. If I'm ever so lucky to be in a romantic relationship again, it'll be because of him.
“I was ready to shut that door and lock it and bolt it. He has ensured that my heart remains open.”
Rumours of their split began circulating after Joshua was spotted on a date with model Nastassja Roberts. Lupita and Joshua made their relationship public in October 2023, following his separation from ex-wife Jodie Turner-Smith.
December
Barry Keoghan and Sabrina Carpenter (again)
Barry Keoghan and Sabrina Carpenter’s relationship ended again in December 2024. The pair’s on-and-off romance kept fans guessing, but ultimately, they decided to go their separate ways once more.
The couple, whose romance had been under media scrutiny, reportedly split last month, sparking widespread speculation on social media.
In the wake of the news, the Irish actor deactivated his Instagram account because he can "no longer" let the hatred he has received "distract from my family and my work".
Fearne Cotton and Jesse Wood
In December Fearne Cotton confirmed that she and Jesse Wood have split after 10 years of marriage.
The presenter, 43, took to social media on December 13 to share the sad news with her friends and fans.
Posting a statement on Instagram Stories, she penned: “It is with a heavy heart that I let you all know that Jesse and I are ending our marriage.
“Our priority has been and always will be our children. We please ask that you respect the privacy of our family at this time.”
The couple are parents to son Rex, 11, and eight-year-old daughter Honey, while Cotton is also step-mum to Wood’s children Arthur, 21, and Lola, 18, from his first marriage.
Cotton and 48-year-old musician Wood - who is the son of Rolling Stones Ronnie Wood - first met in 2011 after meeting while partying in Ibiza, the year that the guitarist split from his first wife Tilly Wood following eight years of marriage.
They then tied the knot in 2014 in a star-studded ceremony in London. In July this year, they marked their 10th anniversary by rewearing their wedding outfits.
