The 49ers mortgaged a ton of future draft capital when they traded up to No. 3 in the 2021 draft. Their acquisition of running back Christian McCaffrey was another bet that leaves them relatively barren in the draft compensation department in the 2023 draft.
They were already without a first-round pick going into the season from the Lance trade. Now their four-pick haul that landed them McCaffrey leaves them without a pick until the compensatory portion of the third round.
Here’s an updated look at their 2023 draft picks:
Round 3 (compensatory)
Round 3 (compensatory)
Round 5
Round 7
Round 7 (via DEN)
The 49ers acquired a seventh-round pick from Denver in the deal that sent linebacker Jonas Griffith to the Broncos ahead of last season. They’re also projected to receive fifth and seventh-round comp picks in the league’s comp pick formula. They could also wind up with an additional compensatory third-round pick if defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans, perhaps the top name in the head coaching market, is hired as a head coach.
Here are where their traded picks have gone:
Round 1 (traded to MIA)
Round 2 (traded to CAR)
Round 3 (traded to CAR)
Round 4 (traded to CAR)
Round 6 (traded to HOU)
