It has been a productive offseason with a solid free agency period and the 2023 NFL draft just a couple of weeks away for the Cleveland Browns and the rest of the NFL. Cleveland is in a solid place going into the draft without major glaring holes allowing them to truly target talent without forcing picks at certain positions.
But plenty of positions need depth and potential long-term answers after 2023. Though the team doesn’t have a first or second-round pick there is plenty of talent at positions of need that could provide long-term answers at positions that have none right now.
Running Back: Tyjae Spears, Tulane
Tyjae Spears would be a great compliment to Nick Chubb as a player that is a big play waiting to happen if you get him a lane to exploit. Like Kareem Hunt, Spears can line up in the slot and leave defenders in the dust with his route running and ability to change direction in the blink of an eye.
Wide Receiver: Tyler Scott, Cincinnati
The Browns have added speed to the wide receiver room with Elijah Moore and veteran Marquise Goodwin but more depth is needed. Tyler Scott has elite playmaking speed that can take this offense to the next level. He has a great release off the line of scrimmage with the ability to make people miss in the open field for explosive plays.
Tight End: Tucker Kraft, South Dakota State
Tucker Kraft isn’t a finished product but has all the raw physical tools that you can’t teach. He has an elite combination of size, strength, and athleticism with so much potential. Kraft has great body control and can run away from a lot of linebackers in the passing game. It will take some time for Kraft to be up to speed completely but he could develop into a great player.
Offensive Line: Juice Scruggs, Penn State
Both center and guard have little depth right now and Juice Scruggs spent time starting at both center and right guard in college. Scruggs plays with good hand placement and leverage to make an impact in the running game. Allowing just three sacks the past two seasons as well he is a solid player that can provide good depth.
Edge Rusher: Isaiah McGuire, Missouri
The Browns have shown in the past they look for players opposite Myles Garrett who can also stop the run and that is Isaiah McGuire. He has a good combination of speed and power that he uses to be effective in both the passing and rushing games. He needs refinement with technique but if he puts it all together he could give solid production opposite Garrett.
Defensive Tackle: Keondre Coburn, Texas
A player with a unique blend of size and athleticism at nose tackle is Keondre Coburn from Texas. He has the size and the play-strength to anchor the middle of the defensive line against the run and the burst off the line and speed to develop into a productive pass rusher as well.
Linebacker: Dorian Williams, Tulane
Dorian Williams is a rangy linebacker that has good sideline-to-sideline speed and is a tackling machine. He has long arms and good size to hold up in the middle of the linebacker room. He also provides a special teams background which the Browns need more reliable players to turn around that unit.
Defensive Back: Jartavius Martin, Illinois
Finding more depth at free safety as well as a true nickel defender is a must in this draft. Jartavius Martin is a big physical defender that makes an impact in the running game something the Browns didn’t have last year. He has the short-area quickness and good ball skills needed to play in the slot.
