March 8 First Round
Game 1: No. 9 Fresno State vs. No. 8 Colorado State, 2 p.m. ET, Mountain West Network
Colorado State has underachieved this year but they do have one of the best players in guard Isaiah Stevens, who was named first-team All-Conference. The Rams have been hit with injuries all year and have had to play with a slim rotation the past few weeks.
That lack of depth may not really be an issue in a one-and-done situation where benches get tighter in the postseason.
The Bulldogs did not land anyone on the all-conference team as it’s a team that is evenly set up team with a lot of good players but no superstars.
Game 2: No. 10 Air Force at No. 7 UNLV, 4:30 p.m. ET, Mountain West Network
2023 Mountain West Basketball Tournament: Bracket Set, TV Schedule, Live Stream
The Rebels always get a boost at home with the conference tournament being hosted at the Thomas & Mack Center. UNLV should have no issue with the win and if they are able to play spoiler to maybe snag an NCAA bid, but they gotta win it all.
Air Force has improved tremendously under Joe Scott but overall the Falcons aren’t good enough to make too much noise. They can’t just play four corners and expect to win.
Game 3: No. 6 New Mexico vs. No. 11 Wyoming, 7 p.m. ET, Mountain West Network
The Lobos are a team that could get an NCAA Tournament bid if they get a win or two and that makes this matchup against the Cowboys important. This should be an easy win as Wyoming had transfers leave and injuries this year. However, the Cowboys do have an elite talent in Hunter Maldonado the likely won’t be enough
