The Seahawks got the best running back in the 2022 draft class with Ken Walker, who projects as their long-term starter at this spot. However, Walker still has much to learn and left a lot of yards on the field last season. If they can bring in another vet – especially one who already knows the system – it would bring certainty to their backfield.
Even if they aren’t sold on Walker long-term, there’s no reason to spend big on an outsider or stars like Saquon Barkley or Josh Jacobs, but here are five free agent RBs that should interest them this year.

Rashaad Penny
Rashaad Penny was running at a high level when he suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Week 5 against the Saints. While he’s not quite as explosive as Walker he’s far more consistent and efficient. His experience also makes him the superior choice. If Penny is willing to go one more round, there’s no reason Seattle shouldn’t re-sign him and start him Week 1.

Kareem Hunt
If they can’t bring Penny back for another year then the Seahawks should look to boost their depth behind Walker – specifically improving their chances on third down. Travis Homer does alright in that department, but Hunt is on an entirely different level as a pass-catching threat. He has over 1800 yards and 17 touchdowns as a receiver in his career.

Raheem Mostert
Mostert might just be the most underrated running back in football. He still looks great after eight years and 75 games played, too. Like Hunt, he’s a threat as a receiver as well as a rusher. All together Mostert has totaled over 3,000 yards from scrimmage and scored 19 touchdowns while averaging 5.8 yards per touch.

Ronald Jones II
Another candidate for the title of most-underrated running back, Jones has been inexplicably stuck on the depth chart behind Leonard Fournette. However, he has legitimate RB1 chops. He’s not quite the receiving threat that Mostert or Jones are, but he’s a more explosive runner and could likely be signed at a discount.

Boston Scott
Another quality rusher that’s been relegated to a backup role is Scott. The moves he put on in the Super Bowl prove he can be a dynamic weapon if he’s able to get into space. Seattle’s offense is sorely lacking YAC threats, and Scott could help in that area.
