After agreeing to a deal with CB D.J. Reed, the Jets wasted no time adding another piece to their secondary.
Ex-Buccaneers safety Jordan Whitehead will sign a two-year, $14.5 million deal with New York, per USA Today’s Josina Anderson. Whitehead, who will be 25 on March 18, started 55 of the 59 games he played for the Buccaneers between 2018 and 2021. He tallied 292 combined tackles, five interceptions and 25 defended passes.
Whitehead finished the 2021 season with two interceptions, eight defended passes and 73 combined tackles. He earned a 70.7 Pro Football Focus grade.
Whitehead is a talented run defender and coverage safety. He’s a versatile player who played snaps at free safety, in the box, in the slot and at cornerback. He should slide in as a Day 1 starter for New York.
