Georgia safety Lewis Cine was still on the board just in time for the Minnesota Vikings to select him and close out day one of the 2022 NFL draft on Thursday night.
An argument could be made that Cine is the best safety in this entire draft class. Of course, the Vikings would love nothing more than him proving it on the football field.
All eyes will be on his development considering the team passed on an opportunity to draft safety Kyle Hamilton, cornerback Trent McDuffie and edge rusher Jermaine Johnson II after agreeing to a trade-down deal with the Detroit Lions.
So this is certainly a selection we’ll come back to and revisit down the road. However, on paper, Cine gives the team a hard-hitting defensive back capable of taking some of the pressure off of an aging Harrison Smith.
Here’s what people are saying about the selection on social media.
