The Jacksonville Jaguars have not received a compensatory pick in this year’s NFL Draft for a mind-blowing 12th season when the league announced the 16 teams to receive one on Tuesday.
Franchises receive compensatory picks in the draft between the third and seventh rounds because they lost more free agents than they added the previous year.
With Jacksonville’s massive free agency haul this season, it’s likely it won’t receive any compensatory picks in 2023, either. The Jaguars have signed six free agents this offseason through Tuesday, including guard Brandon Scherff, wide receiver Christian Kirk, wideout Zay Jones, tight end Evan Engram, defensive lineman Foley Fatukasi and linebacker Foye Oluokun. On Wednesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Jacksonville added former Los Angeles Rams’ nickel cornerback Darious Williams, too.
This season the Rams and San Francisco 49ers received the most compensatory picks with five. The Los Angeles Chargers followed earning four extra selections. The Detroit Lions were given the earliest pick at No. 97 overall after five crucial free-agent departures and only gaining two.
Since the compensatory pick process was installed in 1994, the Baltimore Ravens hold the lead for receiving the most picks with 55.
