2021 Audi SQ8 Review: Performance Balanced With Luxury

The cars we choose to drive should, if possible, reflect our lifestyle and our desires. Some people are forced to go with cheaper models that fit within a budget constraint, but others have the real luxury of choice. The trouble is that so many brands tend to choose just one thing or the other: performance or luxury. The 2021 Audi SQ8 has come along to change that with the perfect balance of performance and luxury.

Trinity: Practicality, Dynamism, Versatility

When it came to designing and creating the 2021 Audi SQ8, this was the trinity of guiding principles that helped them to achieve the desired sense of balance. The scale of the SUV helps to deliver the SUV practicality that you’d want, along with many of the great ADAS and tech features.

The dynamism comes from the extraordinary under-hood contents, as well as the suspension and drive features. Finally, the versatility comes from the additional capabilities of this Audi. It goes beyond what you might expect. The SQ8 is arguably a niche-market vehicle, given its high price point. Among that niche, however, it finds mass appeal from its extraordinary balance.

Audi SQ8: Practical

What do you need from an SUV? The first thing people think about is size. The SQ8 rolls on standard 21” wheels that can handle just about anything underneath them, especially as they’re backed up with quattro AWD and the new all-wheel steering feature. The latter helps provide a tighter turning circle and more nimbleness at low speeds (under 36mph) but then more stability and control at high speeds.

Storage is another key consideration. Why get a premium SUV if it won’t deliver on the promise of great storage? When the second row of seating is up, you have 30.5 cubic feet, but that grows to 60.7 cubic feet when you put the seats down. The SQ8 interior also has well placed ergonomically sound controls, as well as a hands-free powered tailgate when you need access to that storage when your hands are full.

Audi SQ8: Dynamic

The practical features can suit anyone, but they aren’t what helps to inspire passion for the 2021 Audi SQ8. That area comes mostly from the dynamism of this amazing SUV. The source of that dynamism is the heart of the operation: the powerful 4.0L V8 Twin-Turbo engine delivering 500 hp and 568 lb-ft of torque paired with a liquid-smooth 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. It’ll take you from 0 to 60 in just 3.6 seconds, but no matter how fast you’re going the advanced air suspension will help keep the ride smooth and comfortable.

Put these mechanical devices together, along with a mechanical sway bar and a limited slip differential, and you create a truly dynamic driving experience. It not only suits that demanding high-end market and the desire for speed and agility, but also suits the fact that we live in America. The diverse climates, landscapes and changing seasons in many parts of the country are all handled by this capable performance machine.

Audi SQ8: Versatile

The SQ8 is unique because it can be everything to everyone. It reflects better that lifestyle of success and security —- you have a choice to be whatever you want to be. The SQ8 is the embodiment of that spirit. What it does very successfully is to bring the sports car dynamic to the SUV build.

Whether you want the SQ8 in an off-road adventure setting, a chic downtown setting, a suburban family setting, it will consistently deliver. All the things a sports car can’t do, the SQ8 can, and in areas where a normal SUV would be lacking, the SQ8 also fills in.
