The Israeli prison service has confirmed the release of 200 Palestinian prisoners from detention facilities as part of a ceasefire and hostage release deal. This move comes following an agreement that was reached to facilitate the return of hostages, with the prison service stating that they are working in full cooperation with all security agencies to carry out the releases.
According to a spokesperson for the prison service, the process of releasing the prisoners is being conducted in accordance with the agreed political outline. Prisoners from Ofer prison in the occupied West Bank are being transferred to other locations within the West Bank, while those from Ktzi’ot prison in the Negev are being taken to the Kerem Shalom crossing in the south.
Hamas had previously indicated that they expected Israel to release approximately 200 Palestinian prisoners, including individuals serving life sentences as well as those with high sentences. The release of these prisoners marks a significant development in the ongoing efforts to secure the release of hostages and maintain the ceasefire agreement.
