Many superyachts are simply…opulent. And over-the-top. And enormous. And many have decks filled with “toys” that range from aircraft and personal submarines to racing sailboats and “limousine” tenders.
And the fleet of true superyachts that are designed and built to cradle their owners and lucky guests in degrees of comfort, privacy, and…opulence that royalty, celebrities, and titans of industry have come to expect is growing like mad.
And let’s face it, there will always be demand for yachts that are designed and built to cradle their owners and lucky guests in degrees of comfort, privacy, and…opulence that only royalty, celebrities, and titans of industry can dream up.
However, there’s a growing breed of superyacht owner who’s looking to visit the most “exclusive” places on earth that are “exclusive” in the most literal way—they’re so remote (like the polar regions), that only few ships and teams are qualified to make the trip. These trips often provide the "ultimate adventure."
And the list of new “expedition” yachts that are being designed and built, or in the case of Cassius, (a collaboration between C-Quest Yachts, exterior designer Dennis Ingemansson, and interior designers Njord by Bergman Design House) being converted from a 200 foot long commercial supply ship built by Damen into a luxury yacht is growing too.
And I love the way the exterior design by Dennis Ingemansson blends the ruggedness of a commercial ship with the walls-of-tinted-glass bling of a superyacht. I admire how whole team has transformed a commercial ship into it into head-turning world explorer yacht, and since it’s a conversion of an existing ship design, potential owners wont have to wait as long to take delivery than they might for some of the other explorer yacht models.
Meanwhile, the Njord by Bergman Design House interior simply rocks. It’s inspired by nature and utilizes some of the most sustainable materials found on earth. As a result instead of glitz, glamor and polished gold belowdecks owners and guests are bathed in light and surrounded by natural materials. “ We believe the greatest source of materials is found in nature’s beauty” says Marie Soliman.
A sustainable design strategy has been used through the concept of creating Cassius’s interior design. “We follow nature not trends” says Albin Berglund “Nature is wild and powerful, yet it needs to be preserved so we have worked alongside some of the best in the world to give us access to these precious resources. For example, the wood flooring throughout is by La Maison Oscar Ono who always pays attention into preserving a precious link with nature, sustainability and traditional craftsmanship.”
Stay tuned.
