200 cannabis plants found in nine rooms connected by basement in Hyson Green

Police discovered around 200 cannabis plants in a Hyson Green property whilst attending a call about a potential burglary. Nottinghamshire Police says officers attended Radford Road at around 2am on Friday (June 30), after reports of someone trying to break into a house.

Police spotted a van parked nearby with three people inside shortly after arriving. A knife was seized following a search of the van and three men, aged 37, 32 and 25, were arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife in a public police.

But the sound of fans and an extension cord running through a window prompted suspicions of a possible cannabis grow inside the house. Officers found electricity had allegedly been bypassed and eventually found 200 cannabis plants across nine different rooms inside neighbouring houses, which were connected via a basement.

All drugs were seized and the electrical equipment was dismantled. Police are still appealing for information, with those who have any being urged to contact 101, quoting incident 51 of June 30.

Chief Inspector Chris Pearson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "The awareness shown by the responding officers resulted in a knife being taken off the streets, and three suspects being arrested in connection with this offence. They then showed great initiative in following up suspicions of potential drug activity, which ultimately led to us uncovering a cannabis grow containing around 200 plants.

"These types of grows bring nothing but trouble and also put people living nearby at risk, so we are pleased to have been able to shut this cannabis farm down." Those with information can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
