Two SSLC students, who were to appear for the board examinations beginning March 25, died in separate incidents. While one met with an accident, another allegedly ended his life. Another student died after feeling ill during the exam.
Ummai Khulsum, 16, of Jambaraghatta in Bhadravati taluk, was waiting to catch a bus at Vittalapura on March 24 evening when she was hit by a car. She died on the spot.
In another case, Parasuhram Babu, 16, was found dead in his residence at Yadehalli in Sagar taluk on March 25, hours before the SSLC examinations began. Babu belonged to a family that had migrated from Dandeli in Uttara Kannada. He was a student of Karnataka Public School at Yedehalli.
In the third incident, C.S.Mohankumar (16), who was writing the class 10 examination, died at Turuvekere of Tumakuru district on Monday.
Mohankumar was a resident of Chikkanayakanahalli Taluk. He fell illwhile writing the examination at the examination center and was rushed to the government hospital. Later, as he became seriously ill, he was shifted to the district hospital. But he died on the way in the ambulance.
Speaking to The Hindu, Somashekhara, Block Education Officer (BEO) of Turuvekere taluk said that the student died due to respiratory problem.
“The student was residing in the hostel run by the Backward Classes Welfare Department. For the last two or three days, he had respiratory problem. The treatment was also given on March 24, Sunday. The parents said that they will take him back for treatment after the examination on Monday. However, while writing the exam, the student again fell ill due to breathing problems.Financial assistance will be given to his parents through the Student Welfare Fund in the department,” he added.
