2 missing men found dead in Boston storage unit

BOSTON — Two Medford men missing since late March have been found stabbed to death in a Boston storage unit and a suspect has been arrested, the Middlesex district attorney reported Sunday.

Following nearly a weeklong search since the pair were reported missing on April 9, police executed a search warrant Saturday morning on a storage unit at North Beacon Street in the Brighton neighborhood rented under one of the victim’s names, Middlesex Police and the DA’s office confirmed.

There they found bodies identified as Kiryl Schukin, 37, and Pavel Vekshin, 28, inside rubber storage bins, Middlesex Police and the DA’s office confirmed.

Both appeared to be stabbed to death, and one partially dismembered, officials said. Bleach, rubber gloves and items belonging to the deceased were found in the unit.

Medford-resident Leonid Volkov, 37, was arrested in North Attleboro and charged with murder Saturday night.

The police investigation conducted by Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Medford Police Department and Massachusetts State Police found Schukin had been a guarantor on Volkov’s apartment lease and recently refused to re-sign on the suspect’s lease extension, which led to his eviction, the DA said.

Officials said they believe Schukin and Volkov met in a rented U-Haul truck on March 29 — later found at the Brighton storage facility — and video evidence shows Volkov entering and leaving the victims’ building after the last time they were seen. Investigators believe the defendant used the U-Haul to transport the bodies and items to the storage unit, the release said.

Volkov is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday in Somerville District Court.
