The Central Bureau of Investigation on Sunday arrested a Lieutenant Colonel and a Subedar Major along with two private contractors for allegedly receiving a bribe of ₹22.48 lakh to ensure that most of the tenders related to the Ambala Cantonment were awarded to them.
Subsequent searches on the premises of the accused persons led to further seizure of ₹48.50 lakh in cash. They have been identified as Lt. Colonel Rahul Pawar, the Senior Barracks Store Officer, and Subedar Major Pradeep Kumar, both from the Military Engineer Services (MES), as well as Dinesh Kumar and Pritpal.
“During the searches in Ambala and Kurukhetra (Haryana), about ₹32.50 lakh was found on the premises of the Senior Barracks Store Officer (Lt. Col.) and about ₹16 lakh was also seized from the possession of the said private contractors,” said an agency official.
The CBI registered the case on the basis of information that the MES officers were demanding bribes. The agency laid a trap and arrested them when they were allegedly receiving ₹22.48 lakh from the two contractors.
