Two Delhi Metro trains collided in a freak accident at the Kalindi Kunj depot on the yet-to-open Botanical Garden to Janakpuri West line.

“An incident occurred on Friday at 3:45 pm at Kalindi Kunj depot of Line 8, in which a train, which was under complete control of Hyundai Rotem for commissioning, was moved perhaps inadvertently in reverse direction by the Rotem staff,” said Anuj Dayal, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation spokesperson.

No one was injured but the trains were damaged in the incident.

“Responsibility for the incident is of Rotem and prima facie it appears to be negligence on the part of the Rotem staff,” Dayal said. “However, a detailed inquiry is being conducted by Rotem to look into this lapse for suitable action.”

Hyundai Rotem, a South Korean company, is responsible for commissioning the standard gauge cars of the Delhi Metro.
