2,976 new Covid cases, 32 more deaths

There were 32 more Covid-19 fatalities and 2,976 confirmed new cases on Thursday, the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported on Friday.

Thursday’s figures did not include 4,387 positive results from antigen tests over the 24 hours. This would raise the total to 7,363.

This compared with the 34 coronavirus-related fatalities and 2,560 new cases reported the previous day.

As of Thursday, a total of 34,898 people were receiving Covid-19 treatment (down from 36,192 on the previous day), including 15,120 in hospitals (down from 15,614). Of the remainder 2,647 were in field hospitals/hospitel facilities (down from 2,746) and 16,919 in home/community isolation (down from 17,603).

Of those in hospital, 818 were seriously ill with lung inflammation (down from 846) and 398 dependent on ventilators (down from 417).

The 24-hour period also saw 4,238 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering.

According to the CCSA, the 32 people who died were aged from 20 to 101 years.

Bangkok logged three more deaths and there were three in the adjacent provinces of Nonthaburi, Nakhon Pathom and Samut Prakan.

Other central plains provinces further from the capital reported seven deaths - in Sing Buri, Lop Buri, Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Kanchanaburi, Phetchaburi and Ratchaburi.

The North reported seven deaths - two in Chiang Mai and Kamphaeng Phet and one each in Sukhothai, Chiang Rai and Phitsanulok.

The Northeast saw 12 coronavirus-related fatalities - three each in Nakhon Ratchasima and Amnat Charoen, two in Roi Et and one each in Buri Ram, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon and Ubon Ratchathani.

The South had no more deaths.

Of the 2,976 new cases on Thursday there were 2,972 in the general population, one among prison inmates and three imported cases.

Of the new infections in the general population, 2,972 were confirmed at hospitals and none via mass testing.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 4,460,556 Covid-19 cases, including 2,237,121 this year, with 4,395,545 complete recoveries to date.

The accumulated death toll stood at 30,113 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 8,415 so far this year.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 544,600 in 24 hours to 534.12 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 1,398 to 6.31 million.

The United States had the most cases at 86.27 million, up 82,896, and the most deaths at 1.03 million, up 216.
