2,500km roads to be built at Rs 1,750 crore in gram panchayats, says minister Ramesh Meena

JAIPUR: Rural development and panchayati raj minister Ramesh Meena announced to construct 2,500 kilometres of roads in the gram panchayats at a cost of about Rs 1,750 crore in the state assembly on Tuesday. He said that roads will be constructed under the Gandhi Vikas Path scheme which will boost the economy of the gram panchayats.

Continuing his announcements, he said that Rs 10 crore will be spent on the construction of new buildings in 50 gram panchayats. “Over 200 old panchayat buildings will be repaired with a budget of Rs 8 crore.

In another 200 gram panchayats, common service centres will be set up to provide public space to the rural populace. In another important announcement, he said that the “General Assembly will meet once in 45 days to ensure timely redressal of problems.

“The Zila Parishad Act will be amended to convene the meeting once in 45 days instead of 90 days. The district-level officers will also have to remain present in the meeting,” he said. He informed that irrigation facility will be provided for about 10,000 hectares of land. “In a major infrastructure boost, 50,000 farm ponds, diggis and tanks will be constructed at a cost of Rs 600 crore in the next two years. It will increase the income of farmers. For the purpose, the department will coordinate with MGNREGA,” he added.
