2,313 new Covid cases, 16 deaths

There were 16 more Covid-19 fatalities and 2,313 confirmed new cases on Thursday, the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported on Friday.

Thursday’s figures did not include 3,172 positive results from antigen tests. This would raise the total to 5,485.

This compared with the 18 coronavirus-related fatalities and 2,299 new cases reported on the previous day.

As of midnight Thursday, a total of 22,458 people were receiving Covid-19 treatment (up from 21,650 the previous day), including 10,289 in hospitals (down from 10,412). Of the remainder, 1,124 were in field hospitals/hospitel facilities (up from 1,091) and 10,874 in home/community isolation (up from 9,976).

Of those in hospital, 602 were seriously ill with lung inflammation (unchanged) and 284 dependent on ventilators (up from 280).

The 24-hour period also saw 1,489 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering.

According to the CCSA, the 16 people who died were aged from 46 to 98 years.

Bangkok logged one more coronovirus-relateddeath and there was one more in the adjacent province of Samut Prakan.

Other central plains provinces further from the capital reportd eight deaths - three in Chon Buri and one each in Samut Songkhram, Sing Buri, Chachoengsao, Trat and Prachin Buri.

The North reported one death, in Lampang.

The Northeast had five fatalities  - in Nakhon Ratchasima, Udon Thani, Khon Kaen, Sakon Nakhon and Nakhon Phanom.

The South reported no more covid deaths.

Of the 2,313 new cases over the past 24 hours, there were 2,309 in the general population and four among arrivals.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 4,509,541 Covid-19 cases, including 2,286,106 this year, with 4,456,524 complete recoveries to date.

The accumulated death toll stood at 30,559 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 8,861 so far this year.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 725,222 in 24 hours to 547.39 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 1,650 to 6.35 million.

The United States had the most cases at 88.57 million, up 96,702, and the most deaths at 1.04 million, up 266.
