2,002 new Covid inpatients, 29 more deaths

There were 29 more Covid-19 fatalities and 2,002 new patients admitted to hospitals on Wednesday, the Ministry of Public Health reported on Thursday.

This compared with 28 coronavirus-related fatalities and 2,062 patients on Tuesday, as reported on Wednesday.

As of midnight Wednesday, a total of 18,062 people were receiving Covid-19 treatment (up from 17,831 the previous day), including 9,524 in hospitals (up from 9,496). Of the remainder, 247 were in field hospitals/hospitel facilities (up from 228) and 7,813 in home/community isolation (down from 8,043).

Of those in hospitals, 790 were seriously ill with lung inflammation (up from 785) and 397 dependent on ventilators (up from 386).

As of Thursday the daily averages over a 14-day period were - 1,943 new inpatients, down from 2,140 as of Aug 12 figures; 790 seriously ill patients, down from 920; 397 dependent on ventilators, down from 477; and 29 coronavirus-related deaths, down from 31.

The 24-hour period also saw 2,100 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering.

Of the 2,002 new patients, 2,001 cases were in the general population and one was a prison inmate.

Antigen tests from Aug 14 to 20 showed 29,179 new Covid-19 cases a day on average.

The 29 people who died were aged from 32 to 99 years.

Bangkok logged no new deaths, while there were nine in the adjacent provinces of Samut Sakhon (1), Samut Prakan (4), Nonthaburi (1) and Pathum Thani (3).

Other central plains provinces further from the capital reported eight deaths - two each in Lop Buri and Saraburi and one each in Ang Thong, Sing Buri, Chon Buri and Ratchaburi.

The North reported no new coronavirus-related deaths.

The Northeast had nine - two in Ubon Ratchathani and one each in Loei, Udon Thani, Nong Khai, Kalasin, Mukdahan, Nakhon Phanom and Yasothon.

The South had three more deaths - in Yala, Pattani and Phuket.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 4,641,263 Covid-19 cases, including 2,417,828 this year, with 4,591,063 complete recoveries to date.

The accumulated death toll stood at 32,138 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 10,440 so far this year.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 739,171 in 24 hours to 603.32 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 2,061 to 6.48 million.

The United States had the most cases at 95.73 million, up 81,532, and the most deaths at 1.07 million, up 369.
