The offseason and predraft process couldn’t have gone much worse for Philadephia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter. Back in January, Carter was involved in a car accident where a former Georgia player and a staffer died. There was one other person who did survive, Victoria Bowles, who is now suing the University of Georgia and Carter.
According to the lawsuit, the SUV accident was caused in part because they had been racing Carter, who was driving another vehicle. This would mean Carter was required by law to stay on the scene. However, the lawsuit alleges that Carter fled the scene, which is against the law.
Carter was forced to leave the scouting combine when arrest warrants were issued for him from the incident. Carter went on to come in out of shape at the Georgia pro day where he was unable to complete the drills.
The Eagles selected Carter No. 9 overall in the 2023 NFL draft. This does constitute a slide in his draft stock but Philadelphia did it knowing the offseason problems following Carter were not going away.
