Today sees the launch of 1MORE’s latest noise-canceling true wireless earbuds the ComfoBuds Mini. These tiny earbuds are so compact and each earbud weighs a mere 3.7g and is smaller than a glass marble measuring just 17 x 13mm. The name ComfoBuds Mini is no idle boast, there are indeed an incredibly comfortable pair of earbuds and the tiny pocket-friendly charging case is almost unnoticeable in the front pocket of a pair of jeans.
Despite their small size, these new earbuds have some impressive features such as active noise cancelation which can cut unwanted noise by up to 40dB. The external sounds are monitored by four microphones that use a deep learning algorithm to filter out unwanted sounds. The result is impressive and a big contrast to having the ANC function turned off.
As well as the ANC, the ComfoBuds Mini can be recharged wirelessly using any Qi-Wireless charging mat. Also, the earbuds have the capability of being tuned and tailored to the user’s hearing by using Sonarworks SoundID. Finally, there’s also IPX5 water resistance for keeping the earbuds working even in the rain.
The snug and comfortable fit of these small earbuds create an excellent passive acoustic seal and the fit is firm enough to ensure the earbuds don’t keep falling out. The form-fitting seal along with the Active Noise Cancellation offered by the ComfoBuds Mini make these the world’s smallest pair of Active Noise Cancelling earbuds, according to MORE1. That is no small feat to accomplish.
There is a total of four listening modes to choose from including two ANC modes. The ComfoBuds Mini use 1MORE’s QuietMax Active Noise Cancelling Technology with both feedforward and feedback microphones to cancel out ambient noise, creating a quiet zone, for better-sounding music and clearer phone calls. The highest ANC setting is designed to completely shut out the world and is ideal for commuting use.
If the stronger 40dB ANC mode creates too much of a closed experience, 1MORE also offers a milder ANC mode that’s more suited to quietening a room with a more relaxed atmosphere. In addition, there’s also a Transparency Mode to amplify certain sounds such as a travel announcement or dangers such as traffic. Finally, there’s a Wind Noise Resistance Mode that helps to filter out harsh frequencies caused by high winds or when traveling at speed, such as cycling.
By working with Sonarworks, 1MORE has included the smart algorithm SoundID software that creates the ideal personal sound profile for the user so they can enjoy the best-personalized sound. The result isn’t massive but it’s subtle enough to tickle the sound to optimize the tone for the user’s ears. The personalization of the sound is achieved via the 1MORE MUSIC app. The company has worked with Grammy award-winning sound engineer, Luca Bignardi to produce what 1MORE claims is a great sound out of the box which can then be fine-tuned using SoundID
The sound produced by the ComfoBuds Mini is low in distortion and created by 7mm dynamic drivers. The 1MORE Music app also offers 30 soothing sounds to relieve the user of day-to-day stresses. There’s also a Gaming Mode within the App that cuts down on latency problems when gaming or watching a movie.
Another feature that 1MORE has included is an AI-powered DNN (Deep Neural Network) algorithm that recognizes, learns and amplifies the user’s voice to produce better sound quality when making phone calls. There is a total of four MEMS microphones on board (two per earbud) that contribute to a clearer call experience.
These tiny little earbuds offer a total of 24 hours of battery life in the charging case with ANC turned off. A full charge of the earbuds provides up to six hours of playing time with ANC off and five hours with it turned on. A quick 10-minute charge delivers 80 minutes of playtime and that can be either via USB-C or Qi wireless charging.
Verdict: The sound from these incredible little earbuds is indeed impressive with a caveat. I found the sound a little thin on the normal listening mode but with the ANC engaged, the ComfoBuds Mini come to life and produce a very big and dynamic sound. There’s a lot of technology on offer here although at times I got the feeling there was almost a bit too much. The SoundID function didn’t make a huge amount of difference to my ears, but it was just enough to tweak the sound slightly more towards the bass, midrange or treble. There’s a lot here for the money and they are well worth a closer look.
