£1 million in cash was found hidden in the secret compartment of a trailer during a border force search at a Wirral port.
On Monday, September 19, Merseyside Police officers arrested a 24-year-old man from Kidderminster after a routine vehicle stop at Twelve Quays Ferry Terminal in Birkenhead, Wirral. The trailer the suspect was collecting was searched by border force, who found a secret compartment.
Approximately £1 million pounds in cash was recovered from the trailer and police arrested the man at the scene. He has since been released under investigation and extensive police enquiries are ongoing to establish the provenance of the cash.

A successful cash detention application under the Proceeds of Crime Act was made by detectives from the North West Regional Organised Crime Unit (NWROCU) on Wednesday, September 21, which means the cash will be detained for six months to allow officers to carry out their investigation.
