From Vietnamese street food and authentic Indian vegan cuisine to juicy burgers and Turkish tuck, there's been a varied range of new places to eat and drink which have opened Cardiff in the last 12 months.
As a result, the city's already burgeoning culinary scene has swelled in that time - like our waist lines, unfortunately - meaning there's now almost too much choice for discerning Welsh foodies.
Nevertheless, here's our run through, in no particular order, of the 2019 openings to help you decide where to eat next.
1. The Ivy

The world famous restaurant group has been working to open a restaurant in Cardiff at the former Jamie's Italian on The Hayes.
Launching earlier this month, the 260-seat restaurant is company's first in Wales and is open seven days a week from morning until night.
It serves modern British food, including breakfast, coffees, elevenses, weekend brunch, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and cocktails. Here's our review.
Inside, guests can enjoy artwork curated and inspired by Welsh landscapes and pieces recognising Cardiff's history. And the toilets are just out of this world...
69/70 St David’s, CF10 1GA
2. Nook
Nook has only been open a couple of months, but has jumped comfortably straight into this list. It's a small, super-friendly place serving small plates and natural wines at good prices. You can read our review here.
The menu features sharing dishes like burrata with fermented chilli, lemon, olive oil and dukkah or crispy enoki (a thin, Japanese mushroom) with runner beans, miso and sesame. The wines are available by the glass or the bottle, and you can even buy the bottles to take away.
587 Cowbridge Rd E, CF5 1BE
3. The Greenery Kitchen
Fancy a cup of CBD tea and a vegan wholefood taco?
Well, many people may say yes and they should head to the new stall in the Central Market, which is where Milgi Market used to be.
They also do amazing slushies like raspberry and rose. Go on, treat yourself.

4. Pho

The Vietnamese restaurant was founded by husband and wife team Stephen and Juliette Wall after travelling the world and loving Vietnamese street food.
Pho (the dish is pronounced FUH, the restaurant is pronounced FOH) is the Vietnamese national dish, a rice noodle soup served with a side plate of fresh herbs to add as you please.
Other than Pho the rest of the menu is full of sharing starters, spicy salads, wok-fried noodles, fragrant curries, Vietnamese beers, a great wine list, fresh juices and cocktails.
The Cardiff venue seats around 110 people.

5. Luna's Vegan Corner

Part of the ever-expanding vegan-friendly restaurant community in Cardiff, Luna's can be found on the culinary outpost that is Roath's Wellfield Road.
Luna’s is open Wednesdays to Sundays and offers brunch from noon to 5pm, including dishes like scrambled tofu, veggie patty, marinated mushrooms and tomatoes and a Buddha bowl salad.

6. Mowgli Street Food
The popular independent chain offering authentic Indian street food is another of the new additions to the city.
Mowgli, which specialises in healthy and vegan cuisine, has already proven a hit with foodies in Manchester, Birmingham, and Liverpool - where it opened its original eatery in October 2014.
Not to be confused with Mowgli's in Whitchurch and on Crwys Road.

7. Honest Burgers

One of London's best loved burger joints is a recent arrival to the capital's Church Street.
The hip burger shop has more than 20 sites across the English capital and was launched in 2011.
Patty lovers also had a preview of their burgers at the Street Food Circus market in Canton in August.
10 Church St, CF10 1BG
8. The Coconut Tree
The Sri Lankan-food chain pulled into Mill Lane in early summer and brought with it street food from the beaches of the Indian Ocean.
Spice is the name of their game, as well as bowls made from coconut pancakes.
Our review of The Coconut Tree is here.

9. Juniper Place Cardiff
From the team behind one of Swansea's most popular venues, Juniper Place, this sister venue is a gin lounge and relaxed dining environment, also offering breakfast, tapas-style light bites, lunch, dinner, afternoon tea, and Sunday lunches.
Opening in late spring on the site of the former Seafood Shack in the capital's High Street, it has large, raised open-plan private dining area overlooking the ground floor which can be hired out for corporate events, celebrations, and birthdays.

10. Lezzet Turkish Kitchen

Taking over the former Prezzo location on St Mary Street, Lezzet is a Turkish restaurant designed to make you feel like you're back on holidays with an authentic dining experience.
Enjoy sharing platters, succulent grilled meat and pides, Turkey's delicious version of a pizza.
106 St Mary Street, CF10 1DX
11. Old Havana
Also hitting the High Street in Cardiff came another venture from the same Swansea-based team behind Juniper Place Cardiff.
The first of the two to open, it launched in February – just in time for the Six Nations.
Old Havana offers an extensive Cuban cocktails range with wines, spirits, beers and cocktail specials.
A full Cuban fusion food and tapas menu also features.
6 High St, CF10 1AW
12. Slug & Lettuce
Serving morning coffees, breakfast, lunch and dinner, this bar and restaurant is the sister venue to the other city centre pub and restaurant of the same name.
With decadent decor, it's a place where you can also just relax with your pals over a cocktail or a glass of fizz after a shopping spree.
84-86 St. Mary Street, CF10 1FA
13. Cosy Club

Already established in the centre of Cardiff, this popular bar and restaurant also opened its doors in Cardiff Bay, operating out of a space in Mermaid Quay.
Taking on a 15-year lease in the former Strada unit - a 4,435 sq ft space that also includes a 500 sq ft outside seating area in Tacoma Square on the waterfront promenade - it offers everything "from lazy breakfasts to family lunches or a night out in your glad rags".
"Think mansion splendour meets village hall eccentricity," say its owners.
1 Hills St, CF10 2LE
14. Uisce
It's the wine/coffee bar right next to sister restaurant, Heaneys, on Romilly Road and it does breakfasts, lunches and small plates - oh, and a fab wine list, too.
We visited earlier this summer and sampled small plates such as the Kick in the Head charcuterie, croquettas, lamb crumpet with salsa verde and king prawns with paprika and garlic.
6-10 Romilly Cres, CF11 9NR
15. Longa Turkish Cafe
A real delight to visit, Longa serves authentic Turkish food in a modern, bright setting.
Their breakfasts are to die for - think shakshuka, rose honey with clotted cream and homemade simit bagels. To be honest their lunches are lush, too.

180 Whitchurch Rd, CF14 3NB
16. Giovanni's In the Bay (formerly known as Piatto)
This mighty fine restaurant is a pasta hot-spot based in Cardiff Bay and is brought to you by the experienced team behind Giovanni's restaurants.
With its focus on pasta dishes, cheese bowls and vegan choices, Giovanni's In The Bay is a working hard to stand out from the crowd.
339 Lloyd George Avenue, CF10 4QH
17. Hard Lines Coffee

A long-time coming, Hard Lines have finally opened their full-blown coffee shop in the heart of Canton serving up brunch dishes like huevos rancheros, The Parm sandwich (layers of aubergine, marinara sauce and cheese in a focaccia) and their big, sugary ring doughnuts. Of course, they also serve their own-roasted coffee - both house blends and seasonal.
St Cana Court, Cowbridge Rd East, Canton, CF5 1GX
18. Santiago's Tapas
In place of long-established cafe, Truffles, Santiago's has all you'd expect from a tapas restaurant, where you can also order paella.
Described as an authentic Spanish and Cuban restaurant, it also has a new sister outlet in Whitchurch.
3 Church St, CF10 1BG
19. SouvLike
Forget chips and curry sauce, the latest restaurant to open on Cardiff's infamous Chippy Lane is a Greek diner.
SouvLike already has a venue on City Road and the menu offers a range of starters, charcoal grill wraps, skewers, salads, a number of sides and larger main courses meant to be shared between a number of people.
There's plenty of choice for veggies too, with the options clearly marked on the menu, as our reviewer discovered.
