19 dog-friendly cottages in Wales that you and your pooch will love

There's nothing like a holiday to recharge your batteries but often the thought of leaving your dog behind can make you think twice about booking a break.

However, there are so many lovely places in Wales which will welcome your four-legged friend as well as you.

So we've rounded up some pretty cottages around the country, from historic places to one that comes with its very own treehouse where you can look forward to a much-needed getaway as soon as any lockdown restrictions allow.

1. Church Cottage, Llandygwydd

Tucked against a hillside, the cottage looks out over the site of its former church and the pretty village of Llandygwydd.

Located nearly half a mile from the main Newcastle Emlyn to Cardigan road, Llandygwydd is a quiet village surrounded by well-wooded countryside and small farms. The south sweep of Cardigan Bay is under 10 minutes away. It sleeps four.

2. Brecon Mill, Brecon

This former mill was built in the 1800s from stone. It has its own private hot tub and a balcony over the river and nearly every room has a river view. It sleeps four and two dogs are allowed.

3. Dolbelydr, Trenant

Set in a quiet valley, this 16th-century gentry house has many of its original features, including a first-floor solar open to the roof beams.

Dolbelydr is within easy reach of the market town of Denbigh, which is dominated by its castle with a distinctive triple-towered gatehouse. This is just one of a number of gorgeous castles to visit in the surrounding area.

Dolbelydr also has an open plan kitchen and dining area in front of a huge inglenook fireplace. Dogs are also welcome and will surely love sleeping in front of a warming fire this winter.

4. Tailor’s Cottage, Betws-y-Coed

This gorgeous stone cottage makes the perfect retreat for anyone looking for a little outdoor adventure with a comfortable home to come back to. The living area has a lovely log-burning stove to relax by as well.

It's situated on a quiet country lane in the village of Ysbyty Ifan within Snowdonia and close to many of the region’s top visitor attractions and hiking and biking routes.

Tailor’s Cottage can sleep up to four people, but it's best suited to a couple or a couple with a child. Guests can also bring their dog and pay a £20 charge.

5. Willow Cottage, Crickhowell

Nestled high up in the Black Mountains, this romantic cottage is set on the hill above the villages of Crickhowell and Llangattock. With five pubs between them and good local coffee shops, there are plenty of watering holes to quench your thirst after a day of exploring.

As the cottage is set within the Brecon Beacons National Park, their really great hill walks and mountain routes to discover nearby that are perfect for taking your dog on a long and adventurous walk.

There are also fantastic biking routes for both road bikers and mountain bikers as well pony trekking and caving nearby too. Or you can just take a gentle stroll along the Brecon & Monmouth Canal which glides along at the bottom of the hill.

It's a perfect rural getaway for dog owners looking for lovely walks and a peaceful stay. Drive down half a mile of track to find the cottage in a field that runs down to a stream and there are two acres of land to roam about in and there is direct access to a good footpath network - making this a great cottage for adventurous dog owners.
