19,742 new Covid cases, 70 more deaths

The country registered 70 more Covid-19 fatalities and 19,742 new cases during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry announced on Tuesday morning.

This compared with the 69 coronavirus-related fatalities and 22,130 new cases reported on Monday morning.

There were 19,690 local cases and 52 imported ones.

On Monday, 24,125 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus while 221,436 others were receiving treatment (down from 225,889 on the previous day).

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 3,226,697 Covid-19 cases, including 1,003,262 this year, with 2,981,413 complete recoveries to date.

The accumulated death toll stood at 23,848 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 2,150 so far this year.

The highest number of Covid-related fatalities in a 24-hour period was 312 recorded on Aug 13, 2021. The highest number of cases was 25,615 on Feb 26.
