An 18-year-old lad had to be treated in hospital after a bottle attack at an Ayrshire beach.
The male youth was struck with the object on his head and received treatment following the assault on Troon Beach last night.
Cops are on the hunt for another male youth who fled the scene as they launch a probe A large group of youths, both male and female, had gathered in the area before the 'disturbance'.
The incident happened around 8.15pm on Wednesday, near to zone four on the beach, at sand dunes close to the Victoria Drive.
Officers are looking to trace the other male youth involved. He is described as white, in his late teens, with short hair. He was wearing a pink t-shirt, grey shorts and spoke with a local accent.
Police say he darted along the beach on foot in the direction of Royal Troon Golf Club after the assault. Detectives are pouring through CCTV footage as they try and piece together what happened.
Detective Constable Michael Grant said: “I am appealing to anyone who may have any information about this incident to get in touch. If anyone saw or noticed anything suspicious, or has any information on the suspect, please do get in touch with us.
“In particular, anyone with video footage that may have captured images which could assist the investigation.
“Officers will continue to patrol the beaches in Troon and across Ayrshire in the days ahead, as part of the Safer Shores initiative, and encourage the public to act responsibly if visiting the during the good weather.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland via 101, quoting reference 4073 of 31 May. Alternatively, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.”
Cops have stepped up patrols of the beach over the past week as Troon sizzled in the Bank Holiday sunshine. The warm weather has continued leading to groups of youths heading to the coast.
