There were 69 more Covid-19 fatalities, a new high of the latest wave, and 18,943 confirmed new cases during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry announced on Tuesday morning.
This compared with the 65 coronavirus-related fatalities and 21,162 new cases reported on Monday morning.
The figures did not include 19,622 positive results from antigen tests over the past 24 hours. This would bring the total to 38,565.
The 69 latest fatalities were between the ages of 16 and 94 years.
Bangkok had six new deaths and there were 10 more in adjacent provinces - three each in Samut Sakhon and Pathum Thani, two in Samut Prakan and one each in Nakhon Pathom and Nonthaburi.
Other central plain provinces further from the capital recorded 18 more deaths - 12 in Chon Buri, two in Rayong and one each in Kanchanaburi, Prachin Buri, Saraburi and Sing Buri.
The Northeast had 11 fatalities - two each in Nakhon Ratchasima and Buri Ram and one each in Kalasin, Khon Kaen, Loei, Sakon Nakhon, Nong Khai, Amnat Charoen and Ubon Ratchathani.
The South reported 21 more deaths - five in Surat Thani, four in Phatthalung, three in Pattani, two each in Trang, Phangnga and Satun and one each in Krabi, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Phuket.
The North saw three fatalities - in Kamphaeng Phet, Tak and Phayao.
There were 18,843 new cases in the general population, 34 among prison inmates and 66 imported cases.
Of the local Covid-19 infections, 18,807 were confirmed at hospitals and 36 via mass testing.
Bangkok had the most new cases at 2,939, followed by 1,003 in Chon Buri, 833 in Nakhon Si Thammarat, 769 in Samut Prakan, 701 in Nonthaburi, 587 in Samut Sakhon, 563 in Phuket, 555 in Nakhon Ratchasima, 528 in Ayutthaya and 446 in Buri Ram.
The 66 imported cases were from 28 countries and included 12 from Indonesia, nine from Russia, six from the United Kingdom and three each from Norway, Cambodia, Kazakhstan and Australia.
On Monday 224,328 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals (down from 230,459), including 1,189 seriously ill patients with lung inflammation (up from 1,148) and 400 dependent on ventilators (up from 375).
The 24-hour period also saw 25,005 Covid-19 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.
Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 3,066,800 Covid-19 cases, including 843,365 cases this year, with 2,819,103 complete recoveries to date.
The death toll stood at 23,369 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 1,671 so far this year.
Global Covid-19 cases rose by 1.21 million in 24 hours to 448.15 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 4,829 to 6.02 million.
Over the past seven days, South Korea had the most cases of 1.53 million, followed by Germany with 1.12 million cases, Vietnam with 896,481 cases and Russia with 616,782 cases.
