Unlike here at home, the sun came out along with 18,000 revellers for the Oriheula Costa Saint Patricks Day parade in Spain.
The large Irish population swelled with hundreds of Irish flying in and heading to the resort to see the reintroduction of the family-friendly parade halted by Covid-19. The crowd and entertainers were made up of many locals from the area and around 20 different nationalities were involved.
One of Donegal’s all-time heroes, 1992 All-Ireland-winning captain, Anthony Molloy, left the rain back home to become guest of honour and Grand Marshal.

“I am so proud to be here today in Cabo Roig on the biggest day - celebrating our patron Saint Patrick,” he said.
“It is great to see so many, many people and to see the green splashed all over this Spanish town.
“What a fantastic day, it has been a great occasion and I am thrilled to be able to lead the parade as Grand Marshal.”
The 90-minute parade included 25 groups ranging from floats, dancing groups, bands, stilt walkers, drummers and Mickey Mouse cartoon characters.
Forty ex-Irish Army veterans took part and vivid colours were added with Spanish and Irish dancing groups adding to the atmosphere.
