There have been 175 unsolved murders in Merseyside over the last 91 years.
All the cases, which date back to 1931, are all kept on file with officers never losing hope that they might catch the people responsible. The full list (which can be viewed below) starts with the murder of Julia Wallace which has been described as Liverpool's 'impossible' murder.
Known as "The Locked Room Murder" detectives have been baffled by the case which is so complex the case has had no breakthroughs 90 years later. While many of the crimes go back decades, others are far more recent involving ongoing investigations as opposed to cold case files.

September this year marked a year since James Richards, 33, was found dead by a member of the public in a private passage between Woodbine Street and Harebell Street, Kirkdale, on September 22 last year. So far no one has been charged in connection with the death of Mr Richards with police confirming Mr Richards' cause of death was a single stab wound to the abdomen.
Detectives at the time said they believe Mr Richards was killed in a targeted attack, but remained open-minded about the circumstances of his death. One line of inquiry was that he may have been injured on Tuesday night or Wednesday morning at one location and later collapsed in the alley he was found in.
In November this year police also launched a re-appeal for information on the second anniversary of Nyle Corrigan's murder. Nyle Corrigan, 19, died from a single gunshot wound to the back after being shot in Boode Croft in Stockbridge Village at around 6.30pm on Thursday, November 12.
To date, 11 people have been arrested in connection with his death but nobody has been charged. The murders of 22-year-old Sam Rimmer and then 28-year-old Ashley Dale, in August 2022, still remain unsolved.
Both murders are believed to be linked to organised criminal groups and despite multiple arrests in both cases, nobody has been charged yet.
Detective Chief Superintendent Mark Kameen, Head of Investigations for Merseyside Police, said: "We remain committed to finding the people responsible for committing each and every one of these horrendous crimes.
"Many of these investigation, as you will have seen, are current or recent and we are continuing to following lines of enquiry and appeal to those communities who may hold vital information. The older cases are subject to regular review by the Serious Crime Review Unit (SCRU) to establish if there have been any new developments.
"But let me assure you: no murder investigation is ever closed. If you have held onto information for however long and for whatever reason; through fear; intimidation; personal circumstances; or notions of loyalty, do not put it to the back of your mind. It is never too late to get justice for a victim’s loved ones.
