17 reasons why Wales should definitely host Eurovision

It's been confirmed - the UK will be hosting the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest. The annual event was due to be held in Ukraine after the eastern European country won the 2022 contest.

However, organisers the European Broadcasting Union has decided Ukraine is not safe enough to hold the competition due to the ongoing invasion by Russia. So, the EBU has now announced that the UK, who finished runners up this year, will now be hosting the event instead.

And over the coming weeks, broadcaster the BBC will be looking to see which city, and venue, should host Eurovision. So with this in the mind, we'd thought we'd make our representations on behalf of our fair nation. Yes, yes, we know we are somewhat biased here - but Wales is the land of song. But apart from this handy coincidence, we've decided to look at the reasons (and they're strong ones) why Wales not only should host Eurovision, but would be brilliant at it as well!

1. Can we host a musical and cultural event famed for extravagant costumes..... ummm ye we do it EVERY year!

2. Unlike some of our neighbours (no names) the rest of Europe actually like us!

4. Goldie Lookin' Chain would make the best UK entry ever

5. And so would Dafydd Iwan for that matter!

8. But if the pink tent is not available, we have other fantastic venues.... like the best stadium in the world!

10. We're great at welcoming people

11. And after all, we're the land of song

(Tom Houghton)

12. Welsh Twitter would be on fire

13. We have amazing landscapes to showcase during the pre-song postcards

14. Interval acts could include 'Diamonds are Forever' performed by Shirley Bassey or 'Delilah' by Tom Jones

... or even better, have both of them performing on stage together!

15. The green room would have the same vibes as this place

16. And the tables in the green room would include these for singers after they've performed

17. And finally.......step aside Graham Norton!
