166 unsolved murders detectives in Merseyside want to crack

There have been 166 unsolved murders in Merseyside over the last 90 years.

All the cases, which date back to 1931, are all kept on file with officers never losing hope that they might catch the people responsible.

The fill list (which can be viewed below) starts with the murder of Julia Wallace which has has been described as Liverpool's 'impossible' murder.

Known as "The Locked Room Murder" detectives have been baffled by the case which is so complex the case is no further on 90 years later.

While many of the crimes go back decades, others are far more recent involving ongoing investigations as opposed to cold case files.

In November this year, on the fourth anniversary of Adam Ellison's killing , officers launched a renewed appeal for information that could help them catch the killers.

The 29-year-old died in the early hours of Saturday, November 4, 2017 after being stabbed in Market Place, Prescot, following an altercation with two men who were onboard a scrambler bike.

Despite appeals on Crimewatch, detailed CCTV images being released and large rewards of up to £24,000 being posted for information, there has been no justice for Adam.

This year a fresh appeal was also launched for more information about the unsolved murder of Julie Finley.

Julie disappeared from Liverpool city centre on 5 August in 1994.

She was last seen alive at the back of the Royal Liverpool University Hospital whilst talking to a man who was described as white and believed to be aged in his 20s or 30s.

Her naked body was found strangled in a carrot field off the St Helens bound carriageway of the Rainford bypass a day later.

On what would have been Julie's 50th birthday in 2021 the independent charity Crimestoppers launched an appeal for anonymous information and offered a £10,000 reward.

Speaking about the list of unsolved murders, head of investigations for Merseyside Police, Detective Chief Superintendent Mark Kameen, previously said: "We remain committed to finding the people responsible for committing these horrendous crimes.

"Many of these are current investigations and we are continuing to follow lines of enquiry. The older cases are subject to regular review by the Serious Crime Review Unit (SCRU) to establish if there have been any new developments."

He added: "Time is no barrier to bringing people to justice and we will continue to act on information that is given to us.

"I know over the years people move away and loyalties change and I would call on those people to now come forward with the information they have or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously so that we can bring closure to the families of those who have been affected.”
